During sunny days in the winter, opening the curtains on windows facing the south will allow the sun to help heat the room. However, the curtains need to be closed at night to help keep the heat in the room.

During extremely cold weather, heavier curtains can also help hold heat in the house as the glass windows can allow heat to quickly move to the outside. Even plastic coverings for windows can help form a barrier to keep the home warmer. When it comes to energy conservation there are many steps a person can take to reduce their individual utility bills while helping conserve precious natural resources.
