The Actual Cost of Solar Power
Solar power is being marketed as the energy source of the future. It’s clean and some people are claiming that the cost of solar power is so low that it’s a miracle not everyone has signed up for it. Is that claim actually true? Yes and no. Yes the cost of solar power can be amazingly cheap, but only in the long run.
At first you may find yourself spending a lot of money to install the equipment that will allow you to use solar energy. Look at all your options and understand the true costs before jumping on the bandwagon.
Converting Fully
The cost of solar power, if you are deciding to convert fully to solar power, can be prohibitive. Think of a figure somewhere in the tens of thousands. This is if you are talking about the average home. The cost of solar power can be cheap if you use it to power certain appliances, for example outdoor lights or lights that are used very often. If you want to use solar power for a small cabin out in the woods then you are also looking at less cost.
Saving On Your Water Bill
Water heaters take up a big chunk of your electricity bill. This can be cut out completely with a solar powered water heater. The initial investment may seem like a lot of money but you will find that your energy consumption is cut down drastically. The difference is especially noticeable in winter.
The cost of solar power for a water heater will pay for itself in about two to three years. Heating up hot tubs and swimming pools with solar energy is also a smart thing to do. It is also relatively cheap to install such a system and save so much money that you’ll be kicking yourself for not having thought of it earlier.
Good Installation
You can save money and a lot of hassle by choosing a reputable installer for your systems. This is especially important if you choose to install solar panels on your roof. An inexperienced installer may damage your roof. If you would rather not run this risk, and you have the room, then have the solar panels installed on the ground.
This poses the problem of having unsightly solar panels in the middle of your lawn or backyard. Overall with the right approach the cost of solar power is low and you have nothing but benefits to gain.
